Meeting in Rome on Corruption and the Lebanese Situation: Castaldo Says the World Awaits Reforms from Lebanon to Support It

Rome – The "European Observatory for Lebanon's Safety," in collaboration with the "Italian-Arab Friendship Association" and the Italian organization "99 is Not 100," organized a meeting in Rome titled "Corruption, Anti-Corruption, and the Lebanese Situation." The event discussed the phenomenon of corruption, which undermines the rule of law and threatens the stability and security of societies. The Lebanese model was highlighted, as well as the importance of unifying efforts to combat corruption, particularly between Italy and Lebanon, and learning from Italy's legislative experience and its application mechanisms. Citizens' awareness was also emphasized as they play a key role in combating corruption and reporting it.
The meeting was attended by Lebanon's Ambassador to the Holy See, Farid Elias Al-Khazen, and via video conference, the Vice President of the European Parliament, Massimo Castaldo, as well as former MP and human rights and anti-corruption expert, lawyer Ghassan Moukheiber, and the anti-mafia prosecutor and head of the judges' association for combating the mafia in Perugia, Raffaele Cantone. Present at the event were Maronite Patriarchal Representative to the Holy See, Bishop Yohanna Rafiq Al-Warcha, a representative of the Italian-Arab Friendship Association and President of the Omeich Foundation for Supporting Humanitarian Initiatives, Mr. Abdelkader Omeich, and several judicial, media, political, and legal figures from both Lebanon and Italy.
