The Secretary-General of the Italian-Arab Friendship Association, Franco Abdelkader Omeich, revealed that a visit by Pope Francis to Sudan is planned for early 2023. Omeich noted that the Friendship Association welcomes and encourages this visit, especially as Sudanese people, from all walks of life, hold great affection and respect for the Pope of the Catholic Church.
He also touched on the subject of a visit by Pope Francis to Lebanon, ruling out the possibility of it happening anytime soon. This is due to the Holy See’s dissatisfaction with the behavior of Lebanon’s ruling class, which is characterized by its obstruction of democratic progress and political reform. There is a lack of trust in the institutions that are supposed to uphold and protect Lebanon’s constitution.
