The Secretary General of the Italian-Arab Friendship Association, Franco Abdelkader Omeich, condemned the labeling of Palestinian fighters as "terrorists" by Western media outlets.
In a statement, Omeich remarked that "the world continues to apply double standards in its handling of peoples' issues," pointing out that today's world is "capricious, calling some people freedom fighters and others terrorists as it pleases."
He recalled the United Nations resolutions, most recently the overwhelming vote by the UN General Assembly in New York in favor of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, which includes the right to struggle by all means to achieve independence and end occupation.
Omeich added: "The vote on this resolution is a natural response to attempts to undermine the Palestinians' right to self-determination, and an open confrontation against Israeli violations and crimes."
He called on UN member states to "take responsibility for protecting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and to take practical steps in confronting the Israeli occupation."
